Welcome

There are a countless number of dietary philosophies today. Most are based on fallacies about real foods.
Few address your body’s individual needs in a clear-cut, sensible manner. That’s why Fat of the Land Nutrition Consulting unites real food with sound science to allow your body to thrive.

At Fat of the Land, I aim to bridge the reality of our dietary heritage as humans with the scientific data that has been neglected because it did not suit someone's diet-fad agenda. I strive to reunite my clients with the nourishing whole foods of their healthy ancestors. I am committed to helping you find the diet that allows your body to heal itself so you can live a truly healthy lifestyle for years to come.

With all the conflicting information out there on nutrition and health, Fat of the Land strives to set the record straight. To understand the impact of nutrition on health, let's first define good health.

Good health is

Good health is NOT

   Soundness of body or mind

   Freedom from disease

  digestive disorders
  allergies
  skin problems (acne, eczema, etc.)
  frequent headaches
  PMS
  fatigue/hyperactivity
  high/low blood pressure
  depression
  osteoporosis
  arthritis
  too high/low weight
  diabetes /hypoglycemia
  infertility
heart disease, cancer, and any other chronic   health problems, especially those requiring prescriptions or over-the-counter medications or treatments

Your doctor may consider you healthy even though you have one or more conditions on the list to the right. Many doctors feel there is only a loose association between food and health.

Whether or not we agree with our physician's views on nutrition and our health, most of us have heard of, if not tried, many of the diets out there including: food pyramid, low fat, low protein, low carb, blood type diets, “Fit for Life”, "The Zone", Pritikin, vegetarian, vegan, paleolithic, macrobiotic, the Mediterranean diet, raw food. There are fruitarians (those who only eat foods with seeds that can be planted afterwards) and breatharians (people who rely on oxygen as the main source of nutrients). Such diets are based on very little, if any, scientific or historical accuracy. While these diets occasionally produce dramatic results in the short term, their long-term benefits are questionable. When the limited results people experience on these diets wears off, they are left to believe their health problems are hereditary or otherwise beyond their control.

While many of these dietary philosophies make valid points about the plight of the average American's diet, also known as the Standard American Diet or SAD, they generally serve as quick fixes. Such diets are loosely based on facts and cite only those aspects of scientific documents that support their theories.

In contrast, the Fat of the Land approach offers long-term health benefits using traditional practices of healthy societies that are backed by solid scientific research.

I know it can be overwhelming to sort through the myriad of contradictory or complicated health recommendations out there. To make matters worse, many factors that impact our health, like pollution, are not always completely within our control. What is comforting to know is that there is a way to control what we eat to produce the health results we desire.

Fat of the Land was founded on the idea that good health depends on good nutrition and good nutrition is within everyone’s reach. I look forward to hearing from you so that we can discuss how I can bring good nutrition to you.

Sincerely,

Adrienne N. Hew a.k.a. "The Fat Lady"
